Sonar Connections ("Sonar", "we", "us") is a proximity networking app: it helps you discover and connect with people at the same event, venue, campus, or convention. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Sonar.
Your privacy is covered separately and in detail in our Privacy Policy, which is part of these Terms.
We have a zero-tolerance policy for objectionable content and abusive behavior. Content that violates Section 2 is removed, and accounts that post it are suspended or permanently banned — for a serious violation, on the first offense, without warning and without refund.
This is not a slogan. It is how the product is built and how we operate it:

A note on private messages. We do not read your conversations, and no human at Sonar reviews your messages. Image screening is automated: a machine returns a safety verdict in under a second, the image is never stored for review, and nothing about its content is logged. But automated screening does apply in one-to-one chats, because the harm we are preventing — unsolicited explicit imagery sent to someone who did not ask for it — happens precisely there.
Sonar is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account or use the app. The app is not directed at children and we do not knowingly permit anyone under 18 to use it. If we learn that a user is under 18, we delete the account. If you believe a minor is using Sonar, contact us at founders@sonarconnections.com and we will act on it.
Your content stays yours. You keep ownership of the photos, profile information, and messages you create. You grant Sonar a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, transmit, and display that content solely for the purpose of operating the app for you — showing your profile to people you are discoverable to, delivering your messages to their recipients, and running the safety screening described above. We do not sell your content, use it for advertising, or license it to anyone else. The license ends when you delete the content or your account.
You are responsible for the content you share, and you confirm you have the right to share it.

We may remove content, limit visibility, suspend, or permanently terminate any account that violates these Terms, at our discretion, with or without notice. We may preserve and disclose records where we believe in good faith it is necessary to comply with the law or to prevent serious harm to someone.
Sonar helps you find people nearby. It does not vet them. We do not run criminal background checks on our users. A profile, a badge, or a verification mark tells you that someone completed a step — it is not a statement that they are safe, honest, or who they claim to be. You are meeting strangers, and you do so at your own risk.
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Sonar Connections app on a device you own or control, for your own non-commercial use (or for the business use expressly offered to vendors and organizers). You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, reverse-engineer, or attempt to extract the source code of the app, except where that restriction is prohibited by law.
If you obtained the app from the Apple App Store, the following also applies, and it controls in the event of a conflict:
Sonar is provided "as is" and "as available." To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Specifically: location accuracy depends on your device and your surroundings and will be degraded or unavailable indoors; automated content screening is a strong filter but is not perfect and may allow something through or block something harmless; and we do not guarantee the app will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free. We are not responsible for the conduct of any user, online or in person.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Sonar Connections and its founders, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or for personal injury arising from your use of the app or your interactions with other users. Our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the app will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) one hundred U.S. dollars (US$100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Sonar Connections from any claim or demand, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of your content, your use of the app, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of the rights of another person.
You may stop using Sonar and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account immediately if you violate these Terms — in particular Section 2 — or if we must do so to protect other users or comply with the law. Sections 5 (the license you granted, for content already delivered), 9, 10, 11, and 13 survive termination.
We may update these Terms. If a change matters, we will update the "Last Updated" date and notify you in the app before it takes effect. Continued use after notice means you accept the updated Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
